Today transaction provider Fatfoogoo announced that it would provide e-commerce solutions for the upcoming freemium RTS title League of Legends. This highly-anticipated game will ship in Fall 2009 as one of the first major Western-developed freemium games, though developer Riot Games did not confirm it would be freemium until last month. League of Legends will also be available in Europe in Fall 2009 and China in early 2010.
"We set out to create 'League of Legends' as an extremely high quality title and chose Fatfoogoo for its complete and powerful e-commerce solutions," said Brandon Beck, co-founder and CEO, Riot Games. "Fatfoogoo's monetization software solution fits perfectly with our offering, enabling us to focus on delivering a fun and competitive strategy game to players in an extremely accessible way."
Services Fatfoogoo will provide for League of Legends include management of both of the game's major storefronts (in-game and at the game's official website), pricing, promotion, rebates, and vouchers. Fatfoogoo will also handle payment services for League of Legends, including credit card payments and the issuance and redemption of pre-paid cards for the game. Payment services will include processing individual payments and e-wallet management for the game's two virtual currencies, Riot Points and Influence Points.
