Virtual Greats Acquires Street Fighter IV License

Today Virtual Greats announced that it had closed a deal with game publisher Capcom that would add the Street Fighter and Street Fighter IV licenses to the Virtual Greats content portfolio.  The first wave of virtual goods based on the Street Fighter licenses will launch in RockYou's RockYou Pets virtual pet game. Virtual Greats promises that it will license Street Fighter into a wider array of platforms, including mobile, casual games, and social games.

"The Capcom relationship will bring the first gaming-inspired IP to the Virtual Greats content portfolio," said Dan Jansen, CEO of Virtual Greats, in a press statement. "The Street Fighter franchise, bridging both games and feature films, has a narrative and heritage that make online communities an obvious strategic market."

The first wave of Street Fighter virtual items will include the karate gi costumes worn by various characters in the game, Chun Li's spiked bracelets, and special animations that let a RockYou Pet perform signature Street Fighter moves like the Hadouken energy blast.

Virtual Greats intends to emphasize Street Fighter "moves" as a key component of the license. Each of the characters associated with the Street Fighter license have at least one signature technique or pose that could easily be recreated in a virtual world or game as a very distinctive avatar animation. The most popular characters could easily contribute several distinct animations and poses.
