Moblyng continues to roll out social games to under-served mobile platforms with its new text RPG m:Vampire. Like many other "vampire" social games, m:Vampire is essentially a "mafia" game re-skinned with a vampire theme. The game still basically monetizes through microtransactiion purchases of virtual currency and virtual goods. What makes m:Vampire interesting is that Moblyng is announcing it for release to the Nokia 5800, Nokia N97, Android, iPhone, Palm Pre and Facebook platforms. The game is platform agnostic, allowing players on all versions to issue challenges and interact with each other.
"As the leader in cross-platform social games, we’re excited to release m:Vampire as the first blood-sucking title to span multiple devices," said Stewart Putney, CEO and founder of Moblyng Games. "We recognized the popularity of the vampire genre and wanted to allow as many players as possible to connect and share their gaming experience on a variety of social gaming platforms. As the first release of a vampire-themed RPG on Android, m:Vampire joins our existing top-25 rated casual games, m:Mafia and Dungeon Quest, and demonstrates our continuing game leadership on the Android platform."
m:Vampire is currently available for Android and Facebook, with the other announced platform ports in development. Moblyng's approach to social games is interesting in that the company emphasizes Android as its primary release platform, rather than the more popular iPhone platform. It's not a bad strategy, as right now Moblyng can claim to have published some of the very first microtransaction titles available on the Android platform and its very first "mafia" game. Focusing on an under-served but still popular platform is the strategy that Playdom used to build itself into one of the social gaming scene's giants. It's possible that Android could be for Moblyng what MySpace was for Playdom.
